I found a games development company that is producing a lot of games recently. Their name is www.gameforge.de.
The games are either browser-based or client-based. The browser games are centered around the same idea: start small, use resources, connect with players around you, explore, expand, choose your strategy inside an alliance. What I really like about the games is their dedication to the playing experience. Cool graphics, translated user interfaces, more options than in similar games, more things to do. Also the great variety of games developed is really neat - they managed to find a distinct theme for each game, while using probably the same engine. However, don't expect 10 copy cat games! Each has its own story and gameplay:
- in GLADIATUS (http://s2.gladiatus.com/game/c.php?uid=172104) you are a Roman gladiator searching for money and fame (YES, this link just earned me 5 coins for my hero! hehe). The gameplay is especially attractive since you can basically take a break whenever you feel like it, while doing something useful with your character (sending him to work for a maximum of 8 hours). The story evolves pretty smoothly, a pretty balanced game that is completely playable even if you're not investing money into it (all these games use an engine that gives extra "something" to players that invest; the "something" is called with a name belonging to the theme of the game - in Gladiatus for instance we are dealing with rubies)
- in IKARIAM (www.ikariam.com) you are the ruler of a nation, based on an island in a sea. Aside from the classical economy (send people to work, get resources, invest in research, develop an army, explore and repeat),the game insists on diplomacy in a very neat way: you can build wonders with the players on the island, to the benefit of all nations on it; you actually share resource centers - everyone extracts from the same place on the island - in order to upgrade the resource centers you will need to donate goods, and so will other players ; or you can simply try to kick everyone's ass like in usual games rofl.
- I'm looking forward to play Tanoth, their latest creation
So if you feel like taking a day off work, this is the thing to do on that wonderful day! Play them a while you'll see they are lots of fun, especially if you are into collaborative games and all. They all have the latest technology and features: multiple servers and worlds, communication options, technology trees, etc.

The Illustrated History of the Nerd
I found this really really fun site:
www.purpleslinky.com
It contains lots of strange, interesting, sometimes ridiculous information that will make you spend days reading through their material. A few headlines:
So here goes:
My favorite is the "Nerd Cake" on page 2. Yummy, right?
Enjoy.

Do Disney Girls Just Go Bad, or Are They Drawn That Way?
Top Five Bizarre Accidents
Most of all I enjoyed the entry called "A Short Illustrated History of the Nerd". It's a funny collection of "facts" and photos that are nerd-centered. You know, the kind of stuff that makes you laugh loudly at work and send the link as quickly as possible to a dozen friends (yes, 100% nerds also add the link to their Messenger status - I've seen people adding such links in their mail signatures but somehow this seems a bit too much). So here goes:

Why the ads?
sponsYou might wonder what are the ads doing in an entertainment blog.
Well, they are ads coming from Google and hopefully related to the contents of my blog. You can consider exploring them as a) a way to see new and interesting things AND b) a way to help keep this blog open. Translation: yes, I'm taking the money to have the most fun out of them :)
Remember: clicking a link sponsored link is FREE and EXCELLENT Karma. Really! :)
Thanks for considering clicking on those links from time to time.

About my reviews
I'm creating a section called "Game reviews".
Why a section with this name? 'Cause games are by far the most easy and probably rewarding form of fun. There is little to invest in them (costs, setup time, maybe some small training for the really complex ones) and a lot to gain in a relatively short time, as software makers strive more and more these days to attract you from the very 1st second you've clicked their "run" program.
I've been gaming for 23 years now. I started out at the happy age of 5 with a game called Night Lore. You can read all about that in my next post. I continued with Spectrum games, early PC games, not so early PC games, I played text adventure and almost graphical adventure games, quests, strategy games, I watched rpg and fps grow to where there are today, I toyed with massive multiplayer games at school and highschool. Also have developed some games from time to time for either my own fun or my customer's fun.
As with all other things I present here, all the opinions I have on my site are of course strictly mine. I represent no company or product, nor am I saying "buy this or that". I just present my opinions and preferences in a manner that will not offend. However I made a promise to myself not to review things I really really dislike, it seems like a useless effort. So whatever I find and put in here would be to some extent a "recommendation" for fun.
Needless to say that all links, pictures etc. are only used from public sources. I have no copyright rights for any of the pictures that come out of games, nor am I going to use pictures that are not public and easy to find using our all-mighty Google.
Also, on the Gadget side I will include games and other things that I like and change them from time to time. Do take the time to click on them once in a while as you could find things to spend time in a completely chaotic manner, which is the whole idea behind this blog.
This being said, it's time to embark on our fun trip!
